Women’s Asymetric (Uneven) Bars Final|Dreams That Glitter

Yesterday was the women’s uneven bars final at the olympics, our very own Beth Tweddle was up in the runnings for a medal, and didn’t she do amazingly?! Now, I don’t know if this is just me, and I’m not an expert or anything but her routines always look so much higher in difficulty than the other athlete’s, and she just nails it, every time. When she’d completed her routine she was in the silver medal position, but Russia’s Aliya Mustafina overtook her, winning the gold medal. Aliya went ahead of Bejing 2008 champion He Kexin, from China. Beth scored a 15.916 which earned her a bronze. I was a little worried I have to say, when Beth was down to bronze and Gabby Douglas (all round champion, USA) was still to perform… unfortunately she didn’t do well enough to get up there in the score board. Well Done Beth!:D

There’s a video of Beth’s routine here on the BBC site, sorry to anyone outside the UK who can’t view this… http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/19153418

Men’s artistic gymnastics final & all round|Dreams That Glitter

This post is a bit late… But didn’t they do well the other day?

Bronze medal for the British boys 😀 they did so well!:’) personally think they deserved their silver, though technically I suppose Japan did too, but they still fell off the apparatus, making it unfair… Especially after the medals and ‘final’ scores had already been awarded, it was so harsh to take the medal away like that, it wouldn’t have been as bad if the results hadn’t been already given… Feel sorry for this lot – the Ukrainians fully deserved that bronze, a we deserved silver.

And what about this man in the men’s all round final today? Fantastic. A great shame about the vault…

And Daniel did well too! Women’s all round tomorrow!:)

The Olympics. Seems a bit silly that there’s been years of huge preparation for what, 16 days? It’s fantastic though! The opening on Friday, was wow. Though I have to admit, when I first saw this part, at the beginning of the ceremony, I wasn’t exactly blown away.

I thought it was all a little bizarre… I mean all for the British heritage and everything, but really isn’t this taking it a little far? Nobody cares about what our country did 100 years ago.

This was the first bit that was starting to get impressive:

Because Great Ormand Street Hospital and the National Health Service are brilliant in this country. I loved the children’s literature section too, with the giant Voldemort, JK Rowling, Mary Poppins… loved it. And from then on it just got better and better, going through the decades, 60s, 70s, 80s… I swear we skipped the 90s though… but it was still brilliant.

Even caught a little glimpse of Jayne and Chris as they went along the line of ambassadors, and then when the torch was lit, that was good too, waiting to see who was going to light the final part of it all. The idea of having those young people selected by athletes was fantastic, and the thing at the end where the torch lit the brilliantly designed piece? My language here is pretty bad as I don’t know what to call anything haha… oh well you get the idea!;) I loved it all.

Some Olympic pictures from Jayne and Chris:
