Flashdance Solo |Dreams That Glitter

Apologies for my rather lengthy absence on here recently… I’ve come to the conclusion that blogging is just not my thing. I don’t have the motivation to write regularly enough or write interestingly enough to attract even a nearly significant amount of readers that aren’t my friends that know everything I’m writing about anyway. This isn’t to say I’m going to completely give up with this blog because when things happen I do like to sum it all up in a post and share it with whoever is willing to listen to me ramble on halfheartedly, but I’m not going to stress out if I haven’t done a post for a whole week, I’m just gonna write whenever a) I have something interesting to talk about and/or b) I have the time and patience to write everything out. It doesn’t help that I have a temporary phone at the moment so I don’t have the wordpress app and I had to delete it from my iPod because the memory on it is still getting progressively worse I swear.

Anyway. Moving on.

This is my solo that I choreographed myself for the school dance show ‘A Night At The Movies’. My teacher asked me if I’d do a solo quite a while ago and I agreed slightly hesitantly after a few seconds consideration, assuming that there would be at least a couple of others in the year above that would also be doing one. I found out on Monday at the dress rehearsal that it was in fact just me on my own, and all the other numbers were group ones. That did panic me slightly because I think it put more pressure on me because I was now ‘that girl who danced on her own’.

If I had got to it quicker and choreographed it a little earlier so that I had more time to practice it and make sure I definitely knew every single step inside out (I finished it last Sunday – cutting it a bit fine) then I think it could have gone a bit better but overall I’m quite impressed with myself because I got up and did it in front of everyone even though it was pretty nerve wrecking. There’s probably no way I would’ve done that last year.

Anyway here’s the video from last night, feel free to comment and let me know what you think…

Film: Girl Most Likely|Dreams That Glitter

Imogene (Kristen Wiig) is a failed playwright who lives in New York, however her life falls apart as she looses her successful boyfriend, job and home. After an attempted ‘suicide’ she ends up having to live with her mother in New Jersey for a while only to find out her room has been rented out to another guy. Things don’t seem to be how she left home, and it’s evident why she left to go to the big city to fulfill her dreams. After hitting rock bottom the guy who has taken over her bedroom (Lee – Darren Criss) helps her get back on her feet and her life back on track.

It’s a typical rom com storyline really I guess. The film has quite a similar feel to it as Bridesmaids does, which I loved. I found Girl Most Likely really funny and loved Kristen’s character, it was very relateable too. If you’ve read my posts in the past you’ve probably guessed that Darren Criss was the best part of the movie for me… 😉 He’s just so damn talented, and I absolutely loved him in this movie. Acting, singing, wearing eyeliner, swearing in French, sex scenes, shirtless scenes… what more can a girl want?!

Now this is maybe a slightly biased review and opinion considering that Darren is one of my biggest idols and I love him a lot, hence him being the reason for me being so excited for this movie! I saw it on Saturday with a few more crazy Darren fans I like to call my friends. I would totally recommend this film if you’re looking for a pick me up or something to laugh at! (or if you just want to admire Darren it’s excellent for that too)

Book Review: City Of Bones |Dreams That Glitter

City Of Bones is Cassandra Clare’s first novel and its popularity is ever increasing with the upcoming film release (which I’m excited to see). It was published in 2007, and I wish I’d read it sooner. I did get it out of the library last year or possibly the year before, but for whatever reason I didn’t get around to reading all of it, I read maybe a chapter or two. After my book spree on Thursday I was happy to finally be able to read it properly because my friend was urging me to read it after I told her about it the first time I came across it.

This is the first book in The Mortal Instruments series written for young adults. It is set in New York City and the novel begins as 15 year old  Clarissa Fray (mostly known as Clary) witnesses a murder of a blue haired boy in a nightclub where she is accompanied by her best friend Simon. But no one else can see what she can.

Things get stranger and stranger in her life as her mother disappears with no explanation and she finds a demon taking over their apartment. She ends up crossing paths with an attractive teenage boy names Jace (who murdered the demon) who she becomes quite attached with after they meet in the nightclub after Clary’s first sighting. He introduces her to the hidden world of Shadowhunters after he realises that she is one of his kind also. It’s a lot for a person to take in to suddenly find out that most of your life has been a lie and that vampires, werewolves and warlocks roam the towns around her, but her mother was trying to keep it all hidden from her in order to protect her daughter.

The book is written in third person, mostly in the perspective of Clary. It revolves around the relationships between Clary and Simon, and the other Shadowhunters who are willing to help do what they can to help Clary be reunited with her mother.

I really enjoyed this book, I started it on Thursday evening and stayed up until 2am this morning to finish it… it is action packed and although I think it’s a bit slow in places the general pace is quite quick, and there are lots of unexpected plot twists that I enjoyed, even though a couple of the ‘twists’ were slightly predictable as you approached them. I’m going to see the movie next Saturday so I shall post a review of that after in which will compare the film adaptation to Cassie’s original story. I get a bit scared going to see a film adaptation of a really good book as often it can ruin the original intentions of the book. I’m now swiftly moving onto the next book in the series, City Of Ashes…

Review: I Am Number Four|Dreams That Glitter

If you haven’t seen this film, starring Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron, then you definitely need to, ok? I’m just watching it again now, (it’s also a brilliant book btw). I only really knew about it because of Dianna, her being one of my idols – I went to see it with her in mind, but I think I would’ve enjoyed it just as much if she wasn’t in it too, if that makes sense? Not sure I would have gone for it as ‘my kind of film’ though.

Every time I watch it I have the real urge to get into photography and start a collection of amazing scrapbook like Sarah’s (Dianna’s character) because they’re amazing, I love her room, how artistic it is and all her photos hanging on the wall, many a scrapbook stored in her room, a secret from the rest of the world, her way of escaping. I just love how creative her character is.

I felt like I needed to attach some pictures to explain what I mean, also to remind myself I guess. Bad quality, because they’re from my tv… but you can see what they are. The last one is my favourite.
