The Pore-fessional Primer |Dreams That Glitter

20140601-170633-61593128.jpg

I’ve been meaning to review this product for a while and I’m finally getting around to writing it! This is Benefit’s Pore-fessional Primer. The product itself feels really nice on your skin, it slides on brilliantly and creates a nice matte base for make up. It’s really lightweight and doesn’t even feel like you have anything on your skin. Having said that, I’m not sure it’s worth the price as apart from creating a nice base for make up and how nice it feels, it doesn’t really do an awful lot if I’m honest. I wouldn’t say it offers any kind of real coverage although it appears to be sort of tinted. For me, a good moisturiser is a good enough primer!

If you’ve tried this product or any similar, let me know what you thought!

40 Questions: Beauty Tag |Dreams That Glitter

I came across this relatively simple tag which I thought I’d give a go, it also allows me to give you another beauty post which I don’t do often because I don’t know what to post about beauty-related most of the time! Here we go…

SKINCARE
-How many times do you wash your face daily?
Once in the morning and once in the evening most of the time!
-What skin type do you have? (dry, oily, combo)
I don’t have particularly oily or dry skin, but then some areas are more problematic than others so I’d say combination maybe?
-What is your current facial wash?
Garnier Pure Active Deep Pore Wash – I’m not sure if it’s doing my skin any favours yet though, I’ve only been using it for about a week.
-Do you exfoliate?
Occasionally!
-What brand do you use?
I like to switch it up so when one product runs out I’ll go and find a different one, I’ll keep doing this until I find one that I really love.
-What moisturizer do you use?
At the moment I’m using the Freederm Perfecting Moisturiser.
-Do you have freckles?
Yes. More so in the sun.
-Do you use eye cream?
No.
-Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
Yes it’s not good… I’m going through all sorts to try and clear it up!
-Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?
I’ve never tried it because it’s so expensive!

MAKE-UP
-What foundation do you use?
I’ve recently bought the Collection Naturally Matte Foundation in Ivory (though I’m sure it comes out with an orange tinge)
-How about concealer?
Collection Lasting Perfection
-Do you know your undertone color?
Erm no. I’ve never thought about it…
-What do you think of fake eyelashes?
I have to say I think they’re best suited for stage! But there are some really nice ones around that can look natural, though I’d never wear them in an everyday situation, it’d definitely be occasional.
-Did you know that you are suppose to change your mascara every 3 months?
I did! But I can’t say I actually do.
-What brand of mascara do you use?
NYX Le Frou Frou Volume + Length
-Sephora or MAC?
MAC!
-Do you have a MAC Pro-card?
Nope. I’m not rich enough to shop regularly for MAC products unfortunately 😉
-What makeup tools do you use in make up application?
I have a small set of brushes but the only ones I really use is the foundation one, and a smaller round tip one for eyeshadow.
-Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?
I do have a Benefit Primer but I don’t use it all the time just because I don’t feel the need to.
-For the face?
Ditto.
-What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?
I like wearing a mixture of browns!
-Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
Liquid on top, pencil on the bottom.
-How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
Almost every time I use it. Ow!
-What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?
I’m not really sure…
-Do you use mineral makeup?
I have before!
-What is your favorite lipstick?
Cheryl Cole’s L’Oreal Paris Collection Privée by Colour Riche, it’s kind of a nude pink colour.
-How about lipgloss?
I have exactly the same shade from the L’Oreal GlamShine Stain Splash collection.
-What is your favorite blush to use?
I don’t use it, I don’t think I ever have…
-Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
Never! I like to spend a good hour walking around Boots and looking at everything.
-Do you like drugstore makeup?
I love it…
-Do you go to CCO’s? (cosmetic company outlets)
No… Boots does me just fine.
-Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
Can’t say I ever have, unless you count sitting in front of youtube tutorials…
-Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
Depends how tired I am at the time!
-Name a makeup crime that you hate?
Not taking it off before bed! And those people that swatch lipsticks on their lips in the shop, what are you doing???
-Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
I wear neutral ones because I’m not brave enough to go bold!
-Which celebrity always has great make up?
Cheryl Cole
-If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?
Mascara
-Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
Yes, I do frequently when I either get up too late to spend time doing it, or just fancy giving my skin a bit of air.
-Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?
I rarely think I look good, ‘half decent’ is just fine.
-In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
I couldn’t name one line, because I like to mix and match products from different ones!
-What do you think of Makeup?
Why do people assume girls wear make up to school/work just to impress guys? What if they just like putting it on and wearing it?

So that’s it for now… that was fun, I should do more tags! If you’re reading this, you should give these questions a go too!

2 Years On WordPress |Dreams That Glitter

I just got a notification saying it was my blog’s second birthday! Which is kinda creepy, because I was just wondering when my blog anniversary was, I knew it was around this time of year… but hey, 2 years, I think that’s pretty impressive! I’ve taken some rather long breaks along the way but mostly I’ve kept it going and it’s been going really well the last few weeks especially.

I wanted to thank you all for being so lovely and liking my posts and leaving the odd comment here and there, because without all that I would’ve given up with this long ago. Thank you for sticking with all my ranting and slight occasional craziness, but I must be doing something right.

Since you’re the people this blog is read by I wanted to know which posts you like most and which you’d like to see more of so I’ve created a poll and I will appreciate every answer and comment.

*I had a few problems inserting the poll into this post so I tried to do it separately and it seems to have worked, so go to the previous post to find the poll*

Liebster Award Tag Take 2 |Dreams That Glitter

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all having a lovely relaxing weekend. I’ve gotten extremely bored from doing homework so I’ve taken to blogging as a small distraction before I get back to work and hopefully finish everything I need to do before Dancing on Ice starts! Anyway the lovely SimyToe has nominated me to take part in this award.

Rules: You must link the persons blog who nominated you for the award. Answer the 11 questions given by the person who nominated you. Pick an additional 11 people to nominate with UNDER 200 blog followers. You cannot nominate the blogger who nominated you. You must inform the nominees they have been nominated.

Questions I’ve been given:

1. What’s one thing that’s coming up within the next few weeks that you’re really excited about?

Next weekend I’m having a sleepover at my friends house with some twitter friends again for another reunion, which I’m really excited for because last time was so much fun and I miss them all.

2. What’s the last book that you read and what did you think of it?

The last book I read was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows I think (since then I’ve been re-reading books I’ve read before) and I loved it. I spent a lot of last year reading the Harry Potter series as I felt like I’d missed out not reading them earlier on in my childhood and I’ve come to the conclusion that I definitely was missing out, they’re brilliantly written with fantastic plot lines and the films are wonderful too.

3. Favourite time of the day?

My favourite time of day really depends with what day it is, for example I quite like Sunday mornings but the same couldn’t be said of Monday mornings.

4. What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on a beauty/makeup/skincare product?

I actually have no idea. I’d say the most I’ve spent on a particular product is £8 on a small tube of lip gloss, not that £8 is an extortionate amount but considering the size of the product and the quality of it it was quite a lot.

5. Name three positive words that you think describe you.

How bad is it that I don’t know what to say to this one… um, I like to think I’m a positive thinker for the most part so optimistic, kind and… fun?? I don’t think I’m that fun actually but oh well.

6. Which do you prefer: reading magazines or watching tv?

I always say that I prefer reading over watching a screen but that doesn’t mean I don’t like tv and there are some things I refuse to miss…

7. What do you find is the most challenging thing about blogging?

Finding inspiration to write an interesting post!

8. If someone were to give you a $1000 gift card to any store, which store would you want it to be?

Probably some kind of department store so there’s lots of choice on what to spend it on.

9. Name five people who inspired you a lot in 2013.

Only five?! Um, Lea Michele has to be my number one. Cory Monteith, also, he came a long way. The rest of the Glee Cast (pretend that’s one more), Sean Rice and Jodeyne Higgins.

10. What’s your favourite thing about winter?

Layers!

11. What’s the best piece of beauty advice that you’ve ever gotten?

Drinking enough water and eating enough of the right thing can make all the difference to your skin.

Now here are the questions for my nominees:

1. Who is your idol and why?

2. Have you ever read something that made you think about or view something in a different way?

3. What’s your favourite tv show and why?

4. What skincare product couldn’t you live without?

5. If you could only use one make up product for the rest of your life, what would it be?

6. Favourite hair product?

7. Dream career?

8. Favourite life quote?

9. The three most played songs on your iPod?

10. Guilty pleasure?

11. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?

And finally, my nominations are:

  1. http://www.highstreetspy.wordpress.com
  2. http://www.joannaloves.com
  3. http://www.blushingbeauty.wordpress.com
  4. http://www.thoughtsofamk.wordpress.com
  5. http://www.reoudshoorn.wordpress.com
  6. http://www.catchaneye.wordpress.com
  7. http://www.bushballerina.com
  8. http://www.bethanyworrall.com
  9. http://www.whattinaloves.wordpress.com
  10. http://www.mylucitedreams.com
  11. http://www.sweetjellybean.com

That’s it from me now! I shall now go and notify all the lovely people I’ve nominated and I can’t wait to see your responses.

Review: Tresemmé Split Remedy |Dreams That Glitter

I’ve been meaning to review this product for a while now, I must have had it for about a year.

Image

Tresemmé Split Remedy Intense Recovery Masque

Tresemmé says:

There’s nothing like freshly-cut hair to add a spring to your step, but over time split ends can make your hair look frizzy and dull. Introducing Tresemmé Split Remedy. The revolutionary Reconstructing Complex repairs up to 80% of split ends you have with regular use (as measured after three washes) – try Split Remedy shampoo and conditioner together or any other product in the line – and with regular use keeps working to help prevent new split ends from occurring and visibly maintain repair. So you can now retain the look & feel of a salon fresh-cut for longer.

I have to say I was really impressed with the product right away, and you do get very quick results. My hair was never in a completely awful condition split ends wise, but I went through a stage of blow drying my hair daily and straightening it quite a bit so it wasn’t in the best condition. I was also quite prone to not having it cut when I was trying to grow it (Nowadays I realise a regular trim actually helps it grow quicker because it’s kept in better condition, and I leave my hair to dry naturally whenever I can, I’m really not fussed about straightening it now either). Within a week of using the product my hair was visibly more healthy looking particularly at the ends, and as a deep conditioner it leaves your hair feeling extra smooth and silky as well. Basically you use shampoo and conditioner as normal (there is a split end remedy collection but I use whatever shampoo we have) and then use the deep conditioner on the ends and after leaving it in for a few minutes, wash it out thoroughly.

I actually bought this product by mistake, I was looking for the Split End Leave In and Protect serum which I had tried before and liked, and somehow I got the two confused but I guess it ended up as a happy accident.

I’ve deemed it important to mention I got this product after I had a sample of it from Latest In Beauty which is a website that allows you to order samples of beauty products including moisturisers, face masks, hair products, to try before you buy. Each month there is a few product samples on offer that you can pick three of and they’re sent to you in a little box, and in terms of payment it adds a pound or something to your phone bill if you have a contract which I found quite handy. There are other beauty boxes which are bigger and put together in collections which are also available to purchase.

Beauty Essentials|Dreams That Glitter

Here are a few of my essential beauty products – from skincare to make up – that I feel it would be difficult to live without…

Skincare

Image

Clean & Clear Deep Cleansing Lotion

I’ve used this cleanser for about three years now and it keeps my skin really clean, opening up the pores and deep cleansing – excellent for skin that is prone to breakouts. However it is incredibly strong and have once or twice made the fatal mistake of getting it to close to my eyes… ouch!

Image

Simple Eye Make Up Remover

I love Simple products, they are generally very good and although this is supposed to be for sensitive skin etc, it does sometimes have a tendency to make my eyes hurt after using it, but it does do the job it’s meant to.

Simple Cleansing Lotion

Simple’s cleansing lotion is incredibly light on your skin, and removes foundation easily, leaving your skin feeling fresh and revived after being trapped under make up all day long.

Simple Rich Moisturiser

Simple does two moisturisers: rich and light. The light one is made especially for oily skin as people with oily or combination type skin often think they don’t need to moisturise but it is still important in order to keep the skin looking young and feeling smooth. I don’t have dry skin at all, but I actually prefer the rich moisturiser to the light one.

Image

The Body Shop Vitamin E Body Lotion

I love Body Shop products, and although they can be pricey they do tend to last for quite some time and they are excellent quality. I’ve recently got this new Vitamin E body lotion and it’s fantastic, it locks the moisture into your skin leaving it feeling soft and smooth for hours after application.

Face

Image

Models Own Make Up Brushes

These were a bargain set, at just £10. There is an assortment from a big brush for foundation/bronzer to smaller ones that can be used for eyebrows or eye shadow.

Image

Miss Sporty Morning Baby! BB Cream 001 Nude Radiance

Considering this is the lightest shade it comes in, it’s actually a little dark and on the orange side for my skin tone, but underneath foundation it doesn’t look too bad, or if I just use the tiniest minimal amount by itself for a more natural look. It actually has a bit of a glimmer to it leaving your face literally glowing. It is a light cream which is easily applied with a brush.

Bourjois Paris 123 Perfect Foundation No. 51 Light Vanilla

This liquid foundation from Bourjois Paris has 3 correcting pigments: 1; yellow pigments – anti dark circles, 2; mauve pigments – anti dull complexion and 3; green pigments – anti redness. This helps to achieve a flawless complexion and lasts well all day. It also mattifies the skin effectively.

Miss Sporty So Matt Perfect Stay Smooth Pressed Powder 001 Light

I think every girl should own a pressed powder of some kind, especially when summer comes around and it’s easy to let your skin get out of control, ending up with that shiny, greasy look. Nice. Although it comes with a sponge applicator I like to use a brush to apply powder as I find its easier to get an even coverage without turning your skin orange. Remember to lightly powder down your neck as well so you don’t get that awful face – neck line!

Image

Miss Sporty Liquid Concealer with Vitamins E & C 001 Light

This concealer is brilliant for covering up various blemishes, it rubs into the skin nicely and doesn’t leave too much build up, and doesn’t clog up your skin too much either like some concealers can.

Miss Sporty Coverstick 001 Light

Sometimes a dab with this coverstick before applying foundation or BB cream is all it takes to get rid of any visible blemishes, however this combined with the liquid concealer does the trick for the more stubborn blemishes.

Eyes

Image

Miss Sporty Pump Up Booster Mascara

This mascara definitely adds plenty of volume to my lashes and creates a bit of length too, it is easy to apply, rarely leaving clumps in your lashes which can be tricky to get rid of without ruining your entire look. The only thing that’s missing is that it isn’t waterproof (I need to invest).

Miss Sporty Studio Lash Liquid Liner

Most liquid eyeliners can be rather pricey but this is brilliant value for money. It’s thick black consistency is great and it comes with a very small brush which makes the application so much easier. It also has brilliant staying power.

Maybelline New York Expression Kajal Gentle Precision Eyeliner 33 Black

Every basic make up kit is in need of a simple black eyeliner pencil. This one is great as it is easy to draw one thin black line with, the pencil is smooth and soft so it doesn’t irritate your eyes like some do. There isn’t a lot else to say about it!

Lips

Image

L’Oreal Glam  Shine Stain Splash 101 Lolita

I’ll admit I bought this product under the influence of Cheryl… but it is fantastic and well worth the £7 I spent on it. It comes in various different colours and I originally wanted the bright red one but this was the only one in stock when I got it, and it’s a lovely colour so I didn’t mind too much. The colour stays on for hours and your lips stay shiny for ages after application too. And it smells great! What more can you possibly want?

Vaseline Original

If you don’t own at least one pot of Vaseline, I’m seriously judging you right now! I rarely leave the house without it, and apply it multiple times throughout the day… it’s my favourite essential product and I don’t think I’d live without it! I feel so lost if I go out and leave it at home. (Is it true it makes your eyelashes longer? Please share your thoughts…)

Thank you for reading! What are your make up essentials?

Mayonaise Hair Treatment|Dreams That Glitter

Whilst bored and doing lots of random searches online, I found a hair treatment that supposedly makes hair shinier, a little thicker and softer. Not having much else to do, I tried it out. All you need is this:

Image

Well actually, any mayonaise will do. My family were totally taking the piss out of me as I got the mayo out the cupboard and took it to the bathroom, later to be found slapping it in my hair. I dampened my hair first, a cold rinse under the shower and a good thorough towel dry so it wasn’t dripping anymore. I then combed all the tangles out, before getting the mayo. I used a comb to comb it in at first, but then just got stuck in and used my hands to really coat my hair in it. After that I just used a plastic carrier bag (a shower cap or even cling film would also work) and wrapped it around my hair to let it set and trap the heat as well.

After half an hour, I removed the bag, and combed through my hair again. I then applied a generous amount of shampoo directly to the mayo hair, and massaged it in, really getting to the roots. After rinsing the majority of the mayo out, I shampooed again, just to be on the safe side. If I’d had some, I would have conditioned the ends of my hair at that point as well. Once all the mayo and shampoo was rinsed out, I let the shower run cold on my hair for about 20 seconds, this is really the best and easiest way to make your hair shiny.

I then blow dried my hair, finishing with a cold blast, to reveal shiner hair that had a lot more body to it as well.

Have you tried this treatment in the past or want to give it a go? Please let me know how you got on!Â
